On Friday, January 26, 2018. opening conference was held in Novi Bečej, of the project implemented within the Interreg-IPA CBC Hungary-Serbia Programme, with title “Increasing the efficiency of municipal flood protection through smart metering – PREVENT! FLOOD SUSTAINABLY”. The project is implemented by the City of Baja (Hungary), lead beneficiary, and the Municipality of Novi Becej, beneficiary, with the aim of contributing to the increase of the capacities of partner municipalities in the field of flood prevention and protection.

On behalf of the project partners at the conference, spoke Branko Svilengaćin, Deputy President of the Municipality of Novi Becej, Vedelek Norbert – Deputy Mayor of City of Baja, Irena Zivkovic – Director of the Regional Agency for Socio Economic Development – Banat, Zoltán Keszei – Project Manager, as well as Bošnjak Ivan – member of the project management team who agreed and emphasized that the main precondition for the implementation of the stated goal is adequate infrastructure and an effective system of prevention and protection against floods. Thus, within the project, technical documentation for better protection against floods will be developed, the remediation works of the summer embankment Ljutovo in Novi Bečej conducted, technical equipment improved, new smart solutions and risk reduction systems introduced. In addition to the above activities, through the project civil protection commissioners will be trained and the level of awareness among citizens on the importance of their own involvement increased, through the implementation of training and communication activities.

Implementation of the project started in October 2017. and will last within 24 months, the total value of the project is 938 462.48 euros.
